Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions we hear from homeowners and businesses around Brighton, MI.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Brighton, Michigan and work within about 50 miles. That includes Livingston County towns like Howell, Hartland, Pinckney and Fowlerville, plus Ann Arbor, Whitmore Lake, Fenton, Milford, South Lyon, Novi, the Lansing area and much of southeast Michigan. If you are not sure whether we cover your town, just call.

Yes. Estimates are free and there is no obligation. Call (810) 775-4020 or fill out the form on our contact page, and we will set up a time to look at your project.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Brighton Concrete Construction is a family-owned company that is licensed and insured, and we have been doing concrete work for over 10 years.
What kinds of concrete work do you do?
We pour driveways, sidewalks, patios, exposed aggregate, steps and porches, curbs, pole barn slabs, footings and foundations, and commercial flatwork. We also build retaining walls and offer concrete cutting, coring and polishing.
Do you work on homes and businesses?
Both. Most of our work is for homeowners, but we also handle sidewalks, curbs, slabs and repairs for businesses and property managers.
Can you remove my old driveway or patio?
Yes. We break out and haul away old concrete or asphalt, fix the base underneath, and pour new concrete in its place.
When is the best time of year to pour concrete in Michigan?
Most outdoor concrete work here happens from spring thaw through late fall, when temperatures are mild enough for concrete to cure properly. Booking an estimate early in the season makes it easier to get the date you want.
Why does concrete crack in Michigan?
Freeze-thaw cycles, clay soils that swell and shrink, and road salt are the main causes. We reduce cracking with a compacted gravel base, good drainage, properly spaced control joints and a mix suited to Michigan winters.
How soon can I walk or drive on new concrete?
Foot traffic is usually fine after a day or two. For cars we typically recommend waiting about a week, and longer for heavy trucks. We give you specific timing based on the weather when we pour.
Should I seal my concrete?
Sealing helps protect outdoor concrete from water and road salt, which are hard on concrete in Michigan. We can tell you when to seal your new concrete and how often to reapply it.
Do I need a permit?
It depends on the project and your city or township. Footings, foundations, tall retaining walls and public sidewalks often need permits or inspections. We can help you find out what your local office requires before work begins.
